Good Morning to all,
I am currently in the market for a 206 GTI 180 and was hoping some of you aficionados can offer some advice on what specifically I should be aware of. Obviously a full service history and cam belt change is essential but are there any other inherant issues I should be addressing? I have been a 205 GTI driver for the last 13 years and now want to keep it in the garage so I am looking for another 'daily driver'. I am only a recent member to the site so hopefully I can get a few replies. Very Happy
Cheers, Andrew

exhaust rot as standard but can get performance upgrades which dont for round 400 pounds, watch out for rear axle issues and just make sure it looks as it should e.g original panels and lights nd not been crashed or trashed

Clutch judder is a common issue on the 180's

BloodyAussies cluttering up the forum!! AC is right though. Unfortunately there's not much expert knowledge in Oz for these. Specialist Pug service is quite scarce, especially good ones. I know coil packs, can be a probably. Might also be worth finding a good one and taking it to a specialise so he can plug it into peugeot planet software, and see if it has error codes.

Thanks to all! I do know that clutch shudder is fairly common. The 180's over here are virtually untouched. There is no real 'tuner' scene over here for these cars. I suppose that's a good thing in some ways. What about the VVT unit. Any issues there?
Good to see a fellow Aussie on here kk. Are you in Sydney by chance. And if so, who do you use to look after the 'baby'?

They can get dirty / sticky but you can normally just remove them & clean them up to fix it.

Very rare the vvt solenoid needs to be replaced.

The ET3 lump in the 206 also has VVT fitted & the solenoid is the same part number as the GTI 180 Wink

Hi Acboxer. No I am in Brisbane. I get my 180 serviced by Robert from "Le French Motors" . I like the guy, and he has done a really good job so far. He likes french cars, which makes a change from other mechanics you can deal with.
