i have put a after market 8 ball gear knob on my car awhile ago but still think it sits to high. if i trim pole down it sits on will i have any troubles?

Couldn't you just drill the hole deeper in to the ball? As if you chop the pole down you might have a problem when you come to put a standard one back on if you change your mind in the future

shouldnt do but maybe better to drill the gear knob? and tap the hole a bit deeper.... so if you ever want to get rid of that knob and change it.. you can without issues

cant drill it any further that why was goin cut lower. i don't have stanrad one anymore

you wont have any trouble if you cut your stick customise your car to fit your needs as you will be the one driving it

That 'pole' is the gear lever or stick.

Have a look around at other members car pictures who have 8 ball gear knobs and ask them where they got there's from if they fit better than yours, for the sake of £5-10 it will save you hacking things to bits and future trouble putting other ones on
