Recently my car was showing a slight delay between turning the key and ignition. Nothing weird except the lag. Engine sounds normal.
Today when I turned the key, the engine doesn't even turn on. I hear the click, the display lights go off(i think) but the engine doesn't crank. It's like I'm not even trying to start the car, no sound nothing.
After 5 attempts it started. Now at the mall, not sure if it will fail when I wanna go home
Don't wanna be left in the car park

check the terminals on your battery mate, it did this on mine and i went to hell and back to find the problem, and turned out to be just that, not getting sufficient charge, i would put the key in the lights and that would come on, then id go to start it, it would click and everything would go off, that was the problem with mine anyway, hope this helps

oh hell, same thing acted up and I was 2 hours away from home. didn't like the idea of being stranded in the country side.
kept turning the key, i hear the "tick" but no cranking sound or any sound from engine.
my battery has a charge indicator which showed it was all charged and good. one thing i did realise was when i turn the key, every light in the car dash/display/aircon doesn't dim except the light on the electric window console switches.
desperate as i was, i just kept turning the key until it finally cranked on the 20th try? and engine roared!
went straight home, didn't stop for food.

I kinda figured how to start my car each time I get this problem.
I just have to keep turning the key about 15 - 20 times. Eventually the engine makes the cranking noise and starts on the first crank.
Any clue what's failing?

It's not a dodgy wire, it's because it's a Clio haha
Could it be the starter motor as this happend to mine and that's what it was.

Erm i think i paid £120 fitted buy a local garage.
I had same problems tho mate it seemed like the battery was constantly flat so I kept charging it only to find out it was the starter motor. If you pop to any garage they should point out what it is.

I had the same problem except when the engine was cold it would start straight away but if it was warm and you stopped (say for fuel) it would take about 20 goes to get it started.
Starter motor was source of problem and it cost me £126 to get a new one fitted. Could get it repaired for less but would have to wait longer.
