So yeah, just started doing it. As I accelerate through the gears, everything is normal until I get to 4th gear. The gear stick starts wobbling side to side quite badly and I can feel it through the car. Also, if I rest my foot on the clutch, I can feel movement on that too. As soon as I change into 5th, it stops. Any ideas? I have a 5 hour drive on Saturday that I don't have a choice but to do...

Might be a long shot but it could be the gearbox, it might be wobbling if 4th gear has lots of wear on it, is 1st and 5th fine?

As i had gear stick wobble when my new tyres went on, which has now stopped but i think it's now whinning

After driving it today, I have discovered that its not just 4th it does it in. It seems to just do it between 50-60mph. As soon as I get over 60, it stops...

Maybe a silly question, but, which bearing?

Hi

Just noticed the same thing in my car. Seemed to happen after it's MOT at which the CV boots (not joints) were replaced. Wobbles like mad between 50-60mph and worse under acceleration. It wobbles more than it used to at other speeds but not anywhere near as bad as at between 50-60. It happens whether in 4th or 5th.

Did you ever find out what it was? ...was it expensive to fix...?

Cheers

Wobble at 50mph is often a characteristic of a wheel out of balance or a bulge in a tyre
