Ok think my gauge inside the car is lien as it said oil was around 3/4 and today engine started sounding s little tappy when I looked at the dipstick it was half way between the end and minimum!!!
Going to get some oil now and a new filter and get it done as I need the car for tomorrow
Which oil would you guys recommend? I been told to get 0w40 if that's rit it's fine I can get that cheap as I know a guy in parts trade and he has some castrol and Mobil
Engine mileage is now 121000 it's a 2.0 gti 137bhp model if that helps
Thanks in advance

I like to use 5w40 quartz as well, its seems to be cheaper than other brands of the same name too have a search on ebay for it
If it sounds tappy though, you might want to adjust the tappets if you have the tools

You can't easily adjust the tappets .. they are hydraulic (which is why low oil makes them noisy) and I think it's down to changing shims and things ... I need to re-read the Haynes again ...
I use 10W40 in ours ... semi-synth and it's fine. Usually a bit cheaper than 5W40 too. With our climate either is fine.

At 121K, it's probably engine wear especially if the oil has been run low a few times before.
