Identifying pipe/ducting that has fallen from my car...

I found the following hanging from underneath my 2001 diesel 206 2.0 HDI, to the right of the radiator as you face the front, about a month ago:

It wasn't attached to anything so, in case I lost it driving off, I just pulled it out from where it had been caught and said to myself "better have a look and find out what this is and where it has come from in case it's serious". Then I forgot all about it, but here I am now Smile

Anyway, I've just found it again a month or so on and the car seems to have been running fine since it came off - from a quick look over and under I can't see where it has come from either. I'm suspecting it might come from air filter ducting or something like that, but that's just a wild guess.

Anyone know what it is and whether I should be worried that it's no longer attached?

I think thats just a part of the original cold air feed, could be wrong tho

That's what I thought looks like cold air feed pipe.

Just realised that the pictures don't really show scale - it's not really that big. Here's another angle with a 2p coin in view: The round end (facing) in the above picture has lugs that suggest it twists into something to lock into place - dunno what though...

Have you looked under the car and seen if it looks like there's anything missing?

Yep - I had a quick look over and under and unfortunately I can't see anywhere obvious where it might have come from.

I haven't had a detailed look though - just wondered if anyone could identify it straight away as something really obvious.

If it's likely something to do with the cold air intake, from what others have suggested, then I guess a good look over from the right-hand side in and around the air filter is in order.

It's either the air intake, or the battery cooling pipe, both fit by right hand side of the radiator.

Looks like this bit. I know its not a 2.0hdi but the battery area is the same

Thanks - does look similar. The car's out today but I'll check today or tomorrow around the battery and air filter box - lots of Googling for images based on air intake etc., based on the above, doesn't seem to throw up anything that looks the same...

Full marks to those that mentioned the battery . This isn't a picture of my car, as I haven't removed the bumper, but looking down from above it looks to be this: ...at least, I have nothing attached there from the fan, and the pipe that does come from the battery box connects to nothing further down. Just trying to see if I can refit it without removing anything I don't need to.
