Hi all
As you can see I have a 180 which had a flat spot at 3-4000 revs done all the required things.
Cleaned the below
Maf sensor (bit gummed up) Carb. Cleaner
Air filter (a good wash with a bit of washing powder) K&n and a re-oil
Throttle body and pipe work. Carb. Cleaner
Vvt good clean ( got a new one any way has a mesh filter cover on it now! ) is this a new design.
Changed plugs to bosh ones
A little improvement but still a flat spot! So I decided to look at the air intake system and the flap in the intake seemed a bit stiff. Not smooth a bit of WD40 sorted that out opens and closes smoothly now noticed it closed slower traced it back to the breather pipe which has a little foam filter in it took that out and hay presto opens and closes faster and smother. A quick squirt of wd40 down the pipe and cleaned the little foam filter ( carb cleaner ) reassembled.
And the flat spot has gone!!!!!!
Done this last week through I would see if it came back and I can report it has gone for good.
Goes like a scolded cat when the VVT kicks in.

Vvt dont kick in , as for the mesh around it it was just a redesign part peugeot made it keep it cleaner longer

hi i know didnt know how to explain the change in pulling power but feels a whole lot diffrent.

Cean the foam filter of the breather pipe can just make the valve close faster (not open)... The electrovanne switches the pipes (at about 3500rpm), connecting the intake manifold (wich have depressed air) to the round air reserve near the filter (that is made like a small servo brake) to make the valve open. When the engine rpms get lower 3500, the valve switch tubes to join the air reserve (which is now in depression) to the pipe with foam (it's like a very small cone filter!), that breathes air to make the valve close...
The WD40 sprayed down the pipe will go inside the servo, and I think this is no good...

er ok was only a really smal squirt of wd40
may be i have done some thing else but each step was done on a diffrent day and only the last bit got rid of the problem might be a bit of a luck but it worked for me.

Update on flat spot been running the car on various trips long and short and flat spot has gone for good
(will come back tomorrow now I have said this)
So it seems my little fix/tweak has worked for me.
By the way spoke to another 180 driver and they have done the same he said it made a difference to.

Hi all
an update on the flat spot still not running right so i thought I would look in to how it works . I know it does not have EGR valve but the intake air system runs to a small valve on the right hand side of the engine. So I took this off and boy was this coked up. And I do mean coked up so a good de coke was in order including the hole in the cylinder head which it bolts to. Put it all back together not thinking it would make a big difference but boy was I wrong! So I can report that it has made the car pull like a train and idle smooth and steady and run 100% better and fuel usage has gone down to so a worthwhile fix. Try it and see if it works on yours.

The valve you're talking is a valve that works when air pump is on (only when angine is cold): it let the pump blows air into exhaust conduct inside engine head, and then to cat, to make its temperature raise faster and reduce pollution. If it's locked in open position, you'll have some exhaust gas go down the tube in direction of the pump.
You could check its correct work simply turning off the engine when it reached its normal temperature. You should hear a small "puff" sound near intake tubes, as the decompression of engine makes the valve open for a while.
I think that flat spot is typical of EW10J4S, removing the resonator on intake just enhance it. I'm almost sure that it has been placed there for that...

I always wondered what that Puff noise was when turning off my 180, My 180 always ran lumpy from cold which I believe was down to the air pump

Well, every GTI 180 runs lumpy when cold, because of a particular map; I tried disabling pump via PPS2000, but it doesn't help.
To limit problems when cold, keep your air filter and your throttle body clean. I clean both of them every 5000 kms and it works nearly linear...

Ive sold the car now, but used to clean the throttle body and service every 6 months and it still didnt make much of a difference.
I know one of the peugeot solutions for the misfire was to clean the carbon deposits from the inlet valve tract, also did this and still the same.
I think its just something 180 owners learn to live with, bit worrying when you first experience it but you soon learn to deal with it
