My GTi (2000) is being a bit of a knob with its ABS. Just started doing it after I replaced sensor on front but diag reading shows no faults.
If I brake and hit 10mph, the ABS kicks in. Is consistent every time - it will only kick in when I get below a certain speed.
The system works fine it I hit the anchors at speed. It kicks in as it should. But every time I pull up to a junction to stop, it will kick in. Damn annoying - and worse yet that it shows no errors.
Anyone come across this - or any ideas? I'm old skool and only know mechanicals - no idea about electricals at all...

It will be a split/cracked abs ring on one or both of you cv joints they will need replaceing. Get under the car and see if you can see them. my gti 180 Did the same thing.

Thank you so much guys... Looks like a unanimous opinion.
Any ideas if this is MOT failure - if so I need to somehow get this done by Monday.. I am hoping it is just the ABS light comes on/off at the relvant points...

Did it on mine too...ABS light would only come on at high speed but occasionally the ABS could be felt and heard as low speed. It will be picked up on the MOT.
I'd just stick a brand new genuine Peugeot driveshaft on it - not a Euro Car Parts shaft because they are a smaller diameter than standard.

no disrespect to euro car parts - but I wouldn't trust them to open a can of beans let alone supply parts for my car....
Right - everyone hope for good weather then. I have a 180 with the entire front suspension in bits and a GTi potential MOT failure for Monday...
er... good times

Strange this!! after putting new discs and pads on the front, mines started to do this as I've changed the sensor on the pass side as mine had a split on the mounting hole. I'm thinking eather a faulty sensor or because I'm using grooved and pimpled discs with redstuff pads maybe the bite it to much? Can't be faulty ring/shaft as it was working fine before I changed the sensor.

Agreed - I haven't yet replaced the whatsit ring on my 138 GTi and re-test went thru fine. Luck of the draw on the tester. If they find it they *should* fail it, but the brake test may not kick it off.

It's not the relucter ring one mine non of them have split or cracked and no fault is showing up on the ecu?? Bit of a weird on this no one knows what's up with it it's like when you slow down and turn the wheel it starts pumping. It's fine under normal breaking just a sub 10mph it plays up.

Fixed mine it was the 'new' sensor I fitted was a dodgy one put a newer one in and hay presto the probably has gone bit weird as it didn't show up on any faults when plugged in hay how all done now. Did you change any of your sensors?
