Hi all, new here been browsing around for a while now. Would have posted a hello and stuff sooner but have found most of what I'm after anyway! Wealth of knowledge on here!

Anyway, got a problem with my GTi not starting. There is no fuel coming through which I believe is an immobiliser issue; fuel crash switch isn't activated. Before doing a full service it was running fine (oil and filter, plugs, fuel filter and cambelt). The engine turns over fine but will not fire. With the ignition on the K light is on; our OBD can't connect with the ECU for whatever reason? The light goes out when cranking. The battery has been off for 12 hours at a time and is well charged, and have tried both keys as well as locking and then unlocking with both before attempting to start (the both beep in the ignition with the door open). The car is a bit stripped down as it is getting resprayed, can't see this being an issue surely?

Any ideas well appreciated, getting a bit annoyed with it now! Land Rover's are my thing normally!

Many Thanks, Ross

Can you hear the fuel pump priming? If not gaurenteed it will be the crank shaft position sensor.

Is the fuel filter on the right way round? I think it would prime even with an imobiliser fault, so if you cant hear it, id check that first.

Also check all the earths are secured if the car is apart.

Either its immobilised & thats why your scanner isnt able to talk to the ecu

OR

Your not using a compatible scan tool as this year of 206 ISNT actually EOBD compatible Wink

You have checked the fuel cutoff switch under the bonnet & pressed it to reset it.
It can get tripped by work under the bonnet etc.

Thanks for those replies. Can't hear the fuel pump priming, no... Fuel filter is on correct way round, have double checked that too! When I took it off was dry as a bone...

Had crossed my mind about the correct scan tool but thanks for confirming that; also fuel cutoff switch hasn't been tripped, been pressed numerous times and even held whilst cranking :S

Id check the double relay under the engine ecu, these can fail & will prevent the car from starting / running.

How come any of these things would suddenly stop working though? Was running fine beforehand... Would moving the ecu around to get access to the cambelt cause this, and what is the best way to go about working out what has caused the check light to come on?

It's french there known to sponteiniously implode whenever they feel like. And the engine management light allways comes on before you actually start the car.

It could.

I would clean the ECU connectors with contact spray (battery disconnected) and don't use WD40.
And if it's stripped-down check your earth-straps all round.

Check the big relay underneath the ECU if the fuel pump isnt priming.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Have cleaned up and contact sprayed the ECU already, trying to eliminate things. What's the best thing to do to check the relay? When I did the ECU connections I did the same to the relay connector too
