The 206 1.4 is going into the garage on Monday 11th for some maintenance.

One of the problems that are confusing me is that it does not go into 1st or 2nd.

It works perfectly fine in every gear except 1st and 2nd. You can push it into both gears without the clutch down and nothing happens, You can push the clutch down try to find the bite but nothing is there. I'm thinking its the gear selector that's at fault.

The Mechanic (Dads mate) says if its a gearbox he will do it for £150 - £200 including Parts & labour but if that happens we will see.

Also Some of my mates are saying if you get a new gearbox get a new clutch at the same time, and others are saying if you don't need a new clutch then don't get one, What's best on this ?.

Cheers

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

People will say to do the clutch aswell. But when I replaced the gearbox my mechanic said my clutch was fine so I didn't bother.

Most people would change the clutch at the same time as replacing the gearbox.
If anything has got onto the clutch it will cause it to wear out much more quickly, then, to replace the clutch you have to seperate the engine from the gearbox again.

You would put dirty underwear on when you are fresh out of the shower, would you?

Its a myth, that one should change clutch and box at same time. I beleived it until a few days ago when someone on here corrected me. Researched it abit, and they only usually advise to change both at same time because its easy to.

If you can afford to, then why not.

You sure the engine hasn't.moved slightly? Had similar problem in a old Renault (1999 reg), the engine moved slightly and made the gearbox unalign itself from the engine or something, anyway, couldn't select 1,3,5, untilled the AA chap jacked up my engine and put a new bolt into a mount. Worked fine after that.

Sweet, We will find out on Monday :-D, The mechanic did say that as well so it might just be as easy as that.

It happened when pulling out the drive, went to take it out of gear and it just went Dunk and stalled..
