Turbo needs to be fitted correctly else it wont last 5 minutes.

Sump has to come of, oil filter in the bango has to be replaced, needs to be run on the correct oil etc etc.

True, you can't just bolt it on and drive like normal it has to be 'broken in' so is the head gasket ok? or does it needs turbo and a head gasket job? You could always get your mate to aulter the invoice for your needs to pass onto the warrantee company?

You sure it's the turbo?
Mine did the same the other day and it was a wire off a sensor on drivers side of the engine inter cooler to inlet manifold area.
It wasn't letting air through and so it was chucking loads of smoke out.
Just a thought that's all.
Also if your going down the route of a new turbo why not spend a bit more and go for a hybrid turbo!

- Sinature removed due to size.
Please feel free to upload one of the correct dimensions.

quick update,

it was just the turbo that was gone, car has done 114k so was near its end of life anyway. i have sourced a re-built garret t15 from turborebuild.co.uk for £395 with free postage, they offer a 12 month warrenty, and i called to see if it mattered that i had the engine mapped and dpf removed (he actually said it was the best thing i could of done), and they can tell if the damage to the turbo is from the mapping or from another failure.

they also offer a £50 refund for sending my old turbo.

so as its just the turbo that has gone (oil seals iirc) that is all that would need to be replaced. so it arrives on tuesday, as a matter of course im getting the oil feed pipe changed, as well as a lot of internal cleaning of the inlets, exhaust ect. also going to run it on correct grade cheapo oil till it cleans up, then going to use proper stuff.

i know cheappo oil is not the best idea but not wanbting to pay silly money for oil that will be thrown out and its only function would be to take the remaining carbon out of the system

26 quid for 5L of oil surely wasn't silly money

and this will ensure your turbo won't blown up again.
