Hi,
I am an owner of a 2002 206 1.6 16V XSI and I have been experiencing gearbox/clutch problems.
Firstly, 1st gear sometimes refuses to be selected and will not slot in. When setting off in that gear and going into 2nd, it makes a buzzing sound that comes from the near left side of the vehicle. It sounds like a mo-ped when setting off with a thrumming noise. As you can imagine, it’s pretty embarrassing setting off.
That’s not the only problem I have. My car will NOT slot into 5th gear. If I try to select 5th, on the move, it will just rev and not move the car forward – as if the car is in neutral and out of gear. So if I travel on faster roads, it means taking the car in 4th gear.
Has anyone else experienced these problems on their 206? If so, can you tell me or have an idea on what the faults could be on my car. If possible, on what the cost of the repair could be.
Feedback and answers will be much appreciated.

A new gearbox is the only thing I can suggest, take it down to your garage and get a second opinion though (not a cowboy garage, mind)

most garage won't touch gearbox (changing clutch doesn't count)

Replacing it will probably be a better (and possibly cheaper) solution than repairing the gearbox.
