Got a rattling heat shield on the manifold of my gti 180. Bolts are too corroded to tighten. Has anyone just removed the heat shield without any issues?

I am pretty sure from what I have read on here before that you can just take these off no problems

The heat shield is fine, just the bolts are knackered and worn.

Ah, just figured you might end up butchering it getting it off.
But yeah, if you can remove it, you can remove it, it should be fine to remove.

It's been designed to protect something from the heat coming from the manifold. Car companies don't spend time and money doing research, design and manufacturing on something that isn't needed.
Clean up the threads and buy a new nut and bolt. Probably cost less than £1 to sort it out.
