I'm liking the hdis ATM trying to get my bro to get one as he's On the look out for a new car and reccomended a hdi 206 over the 1.6ect low tax, lower running cost, lower insurance. He's not botherd about speed just aslong as it's better than his 1.2 corsa lol.
Any advice what to look out for on these?

was told to stay clear of the 1.6 hdi as it as never ending problems, the 2ltr is meant to be a solid engine from what everyones says on here, the one 1.4hdi is slow but was told with a re map can hit 90bhp which is what the 2ltr hdi runs at.
I saw 3 2ltr hdi's and the all three had the airbag fault, this could have just been a coincident?
I could not find a good one for less than £1500 good meaning, good miles gearbox etc etc.
cant really give much more advice, wish I had more when looking, I can say few faults aside the car put a smile on my face on the way back very nippy, I had the gt tdi 115 bhp 6 speed mk4 golf before this and that failed to make smile as much considering it cost nearly a thousand pound more

Sound mate thanks for the advice, He's sort of looked to me to help him find a good one but not sure what to look for in cars nowadays due to my car being nothing standard lol.
I'll tell him that as I think he was looking at the 1.6 hid gti? But if you can get the 1.4 upto the 2.0 power with some lights then thats good.

As anton said the 1.6 is a no go. I own a 2.0 HDI. Toms old car poppy. They are lovely to drive and highly modifiable in terms of performance. The economy is amazing and so is tax an insurance!
