My uncle owns(owned) a 51 plate 206, he used it as a driving instructor and lived with his long term partner, a little over a year ago they split up and he moved to my nan's. One month after he decided to go and visit another uncle in Australia on a one month holiday, he met an old flame and recently they got married and he has never coming back. He's told my nan to sell the car to webuyanycar or give it to me.
So where to start, obviously I'm going to have to jump start it etc, but what I'm more concerned about is the papers of the car and where I stand with the DVLA, I gather the car hasn't been insured, taxed or MOT'd for close to a year now so what do I do first? How will the car be registered in my name? He is incummunicado and my gradmother has no idea about anything like that, the split with his ex was quite acrimonious and she's never been heard of again...
Any suggestions on where I start?

Call the DVLA and explain your situation, they will be able to help with the ownership issue.

post office, get a v5c i think it is.. fill it in, basically your telling the dvla your the new owner, but u can wait upto 6weeks for it to come in... i waited 7weeks for mine... grim!!!

were are the papers? V5 ect, If you cant find them then you will need to buy them i suspect!!! Once you have the v5 sorted the car is then yours, you then need to book it in for a mot and take out insurance, once thats done you can get your tax thats it, sorted,
1) V5 (find it or buy another one for the car)(about £25 quid im told)
2) insurance
3) MOT
4) Tax

Welcome to the world of French crap build motoring.
Don't just jump start it, do your research first. The electrics are tempremental.
Go to the MID and check that the car has been SORNd. If it has, happy days, if not SORN it straight away.
Send the V5 documentation off to DVLA to change ownership details. As your Nan has acted as the seller, she has the right to sign the document on you uncles behalf.
Ask a local garage who have either a transporter or trade plates to collect the car to give it a pre MOT check. Do any work on the car and then get the certificate on it, and then get it insured and taxed.

Thanks, I've done my research on this very forum about jump starting etc, the car I imagine after not moving for a year (it is in a very damp garage though off road and obviously it isn't at the registered address it is at my nan's) it might cost me more money than it is worth to be honest but I've been driving for 10 years and never owned a car, never been able to afford one, so being given one seems like too good an opportunity to pass up, it isn't that old only done 75,000 miles too, I think the clutch will have been abused during the one year it was a driving instruction car.
I think the papers are with the ex.

SORN doesn't transfer automatically with change of registered keeper. Having said that, since he will still officially be, then its not your worry (and they'll unlikely be able to fine him if he's out of the country, although if he returns....). Get the V5 transferred into your name, as said above there's a cost. I believe they write to the current registered keeper, and if they don't hear from him, after a certain period of time, will issue you a V5 in your name.
Once this is done, get it SORNed.
Then do the necessary work for the MoT. Then get it insured (need insurance to drive to an MoT station...) Then book it in for an MoT test (there is an exemption, you can drive to-from a test station, or place where its being repaired, without a valid MoT or tax, but the car must still be 'roadworthy'. Get it tested, if it fails get the work done and retested, etc. Once passed, get it taxed ASAP (assuming you're going to use it, instead of keeping it off the road).

u need to grab a v62 from the post office bud, fill it in and there's a fee of £25 get it sent next day n youll probly get the log book within 2-3 weeks ,
regards to it standing id give it a real good engine service , oil , filter ect ,
then see how things go ?
i woudnt drive it tho , police are hot on stuff like this at the moment =/
