Right changed a cover on the remote key on a 206cc. Made sure that the chip was inside and working, did this about 6 weeks ago, even changed the battery, Today the car has come back with an immobiliser fault and wouldnt start however locked just fine (so i am told) The alarm didnt go off at all!

Any help much appreciated,

Keys can just die, but im guessing she locked it from the lock rather than the fob

A main stealer or key coder would be able to tell you if the key is out putting a signal, if it aint, new key

You aint liable mate, they just die

Was the new fob case the same as the old one? If the immobiliser chip is just a bit too far away from the aerial pick up ring then it may be on the edge of its range so it can interrogate the chip one moment and not sense it at all on the next

Have a look inside the key case and see if the chip has moved or if it looks the same distance as the old fob

The remote central locking/ alarm are completely different systems
