Hello, I just did my MOT on 206, it is a fail so was wondering if anyone can help me or give me good advice.

- Nearside rear radius arm bearing has excess play (complete axle will be required)

- Nearside outer CV Joint excessively worn (replace driveshaft)

- Nearside rear brake recoding no effort

- Rear Load sensing valve siezed

- Nearside front tyre below limits (outer)

The MOT guys said its better getting a new car?????

If you know abit about cars you could do it yourself

1 depending how far its gone you could replace the bearing (£50)

2 2nd hand drive shaft (£30)

3 sticking caliper or pads pads are about £20 from ECP

4 wd40 unsieze it yourself

5 tyres maybe get some buget or part worns to keep cost down

so £150 if you go that way but if you start putting axels on then it bumps it up. whats the value of the car??

What is wrong with these people... "Better to get a new car"... indeed.

What's to say your next 206 wont have the same issues - or more - 6 months down the line. At least if you do the above jobs, they will not bother you again for many months.

There is feck all on that list. A mornings work. Time to buy a Haynes manual... or maybe a second hand one as you sound like you are on a budget Smile

I may be wrong, but if you get a refurb/second hand axle then you will need to either swap the existing brake drums over or it will come with drums already attached. This should sort the rear brake issue out.
The brake regulator valve is attached to the rear suspension so this can be freed at the same time. 3 jobs in one. Second hand axle from £50 (but may be worse than yours) refurb from about £300

Driveshaft from £50 new plus about 2 hours to change

No excuse for worn tyres. I would get the tracking checked when it's replaced though.

Do it all yourself for less than £400 with new/refurb parts

I don't suppose the garage sells cars too? Fail yours, get you to buy a new one part ex, fix yours for a couple of hundred and then sell it on for a tidy profit
