Hopefully someones got an idea whats up with my car, or can give me some pointers

206 GTi 140, on a Y reg.

Tried to start my little bad boy last night, turned the key, all I got was a clicking noise, sounded like the solenoid but no turnover.

Bump started it down the road, it fired up, then cut out. Tried turning it over again, and nothing.

Bump started it again, again it fired up, then cut out straight away again.

Borrowed jump leads from a neighbour, hooked it up to my brothers car, again all I could hear was clicking from the solenoid. I thought it could be starter motor or battery related, but then it wouldn't have cut out once it was running would it?

Anyone got any ideas what it could be, i.e crankshaft or camshaft sensor, MAP sensor, common bad earth etc? Really need to be back on the road by Monday night because it's my boy's first day at school on Tuesday.

Connect the battery -ve direct to the body then try to start it. or connect engine directly to body.

Cool, I'll give it a try in the morning. Thought it might be something like that but I wouldn't know where to start. If connecting the negative to the body fixes it, what's the next step? How do I find the bad earth?

Can anyone help me out here? I've been out to the car today, the batteries completely flat. I've tried jump starting it off my brothers a3 tdi, but the same things happened. Could a faulty battery stop it being being jump started off of another car? Or could there be a big electrical problem causing a short circuit so there's just no current gettin to the starter?

Jump starting a 206 isn't a great idea anyway, you run the risk of buggering the ECU. Try taking the battery off another car and starting it.

b******s. In your "had a bad idea" thread is the real photo and the colour of your car is nothing like that above. Crap camara or not. You have adjusted the colour that much you've turned a green tree red.

Twas' the window switch stuck which drained and murdered the battery. New battery fixed it, boom!

Once the battery is flat it needs charging, just driving it won't charge it properly. So a jump start will just get you going...
