Hi all,
I'm new to this site and i'm looking for a solution to the problem i have with my wifes 2000 1.4 206,

When i start the car from cold ( sometimes not every time) the revs increase by themselvs and if you try to pull away the engine coughs and dies. once warm it does'not do it so often, sometimes not at all and the engine ticks over and runs realy smoothly.

Any ideas as this is now starting to get on my nerves!

Cheers

Alfie

Try a battery test to determine if the battery is holding its charge properly.

If the battery is healthy it may be worth checking the condition of the air filter and spark plugs.

If they look good consider the idle control valve.

More than likely the Idle Control Valve, common problem!

excuse my lack of car knowledge but im just wondering is the idle control valve similar or the same as a egr valve as on my old car we had this exact problem and tried everything till we put it into a dedicated place who told us it was the egr, which we had already tried but because the cars computer wasnt reset so the car didn't register it as a different one, crazy eh. just thought i share that to see if it helps tho =)

Had a similar issue on mine which turned out to be either the throttle body sticking or a dirty map/maf sensor.

Followed this guide and all fixed..

It could well be the ICV.

See here for the Idle Control Valve and how to clean it (bare in mind that they differ depending on your engine though!)
