Evening guys,as i've probably made quite obvious so far im a bit of a newb with cars but on my ever-confusing quest for knowledge and headaches i was wondering....
I've seen a lot about "throttle bodied cars" which seems to cost a pretty penny or 20,000,throttle body seems to be a relatively straight forward part,so the question is.... what else exactly is required/carried out in this process as it seems to yield pretty good results and be a popular mod

bascially ITB = bigger throttle body (in total) + better inlet = more air = more power.

ok,so by logic JUST the throttle body itself wont offer any improvement as its still restricted by the inlet. but even lookin at their prices,im struggling to see how ppl talk on here about TB work costing £2k

the ITB kit included inlet. you can't use the oem inlet.
the kit cost:
£1,064.00 ex VAT
you need aftermarket ecu , that cost around 500+
you need injectors x4 200-300
all added up which is around 2K if not more.

ooooh see now it makes sense,thats what i was looking for,so injectors,everything has to be overhauled to cope with the upgrade. cheers
im mostly into styling and noise and dont tend to drag/race but im just getting a bit frustrated with the puganis response (or lack of) when i drive angry

Hi Seabook, just visited your link and found this will be less than 500 including VAT, isn't this a cheaper option? Or are these not proper TBs?
Say if you could get a small garage especially someone you know to fit it then the labour cost would be cheap as chips, and an ECU say 250 so maybe 750 plus your mate's labour cost for ITB?
Much better than the 2k+ that people say?

These are just the throttle bodies themselves it is not the trumpets, inlet manifold and fuel rail ect you need for the system.
TB will give you a LOT more noise than standard if you use the power of the car
The standard GTI 180 injectors are fine for TB install however you need to use an upgraded ECU. £800 is the cheapest that can use the 180s VVT system and installing it is a BIG job.
A local garage would not be able to install a TB system on a 180 is is a real challenge and you would need a specialist to do it correctly. I would say that you would be looking at £3000 for an installed kit.

in respect of noise,believe me when i say i have enough of that already,rather shocked when it shouted the first time and no1 ever believes what engine and little work it had done when they hear it. amazed i got away with it so far because quite sure it be above the limit. still doesnt really move tho lol. Not looking forward to 4hr drive to see the fam in november :o/
On that subject,another dafty,without rippin out the exhaust and sticking a stock one back in,any suggestions for quietening her down a bit for long journeys as my ears may bleed otherwise
