do i fix it which would be nice or do i break it?
the interior is mint, all original, new rear axle, whats your feedback?
thanks in advance

if you can do the work yourself then i would think if the rest of car is ok and you like it then rebuild it.if paying sombody to do it then tough call as it will add up but could get s/h head for under 200

well if you got it to sell on and make cash then you will proberly get a better return by parting it out then. but it does take time, room and effort you can be sat on some bits for ages then the hastle of posting parts. you may get a head or full engine cheaper but you need to be sure its a good un.

bolt a new head on and then sold the whole car.
without a working engine you aren't got much breaking value

Unless your not going to buy another car, put another engine in yours. Buy a whole Gti for '£7-800' for the engine if you have to, & then scrap/sell what's left over to claw some money back. Your car sounds nice, would be a shame to break it.

If it was me i would probably rebuild it. I rebuilt my mondeo diesel when the cambelt snapped on that. Cost me around £150 for all the parts including new valves etc. It just depends on if you can get parts cheap locally. I used about 5 different auto factors to get my parts cheap - some are cheaper on some things - I remember getting a water pump for £14 from one!

thats true mate, well if i were to rebuild the head im looking at atleast £100 for all the valvem then head skim, headset head bolts, id do the cambelt kit, i can see it costing me about £300 ish, then if i was to sell it for £700 i dont seeany point in that has that would'ne even cover my time, its so annoying when i watch 'wheeler dealer', mike brewer is so annoying
