Morning Guys,
I collected my new car last night, a 2004 Agean blue 206 gti 180. 2 previous owners, standard (ish) with SP pack from new.
I did a deal on my recently restored 306 GTi-6 which has been featured in the PSOC Torque mag a few times.
Initial impressions are quite favorable, some questionable styling "improvements"  have been made to the 206 over the years, worst one being Lexus rear lights which are so bad they make the Baby Jesus cry, they will be changed for some nice mint OE phase 2 rears asap. Other external mod is the morettes on the front. Dont like them, so they will be going as soon as i can find a minty mint set of OE crystal lamps to fit.
Its quite a different car to the 306, power delivery is much different, although overall performance seems the same, interiors a deffinate improvement, much more modern with loads of toys and gizmo's, ride is hard, and there's loads of rattles which i'll chase down over the next few weeks.
Recent work on the 206 includes a beam rebuild, new rear calipers, discs/pads and back plates, A/C pipes and a lovely refurb on the OE Vortex alloys. Cheap tyres all round which will be changed in due course. Just had a new middle and back section of the exhaust as well.
Couple of issues i need to sort, the climate control works fine, the central screen lights up fine but the buttons on the unit are all in darkness. Is that a bulb issue behind the panel or is the panel shot?
I'll get some pics up over the weekend, then its in at the deep end on monday as i'm booked on at Donington Park for a trackday with it!!! Got a set of DS2500 pads to fit later today and bed in ready for then.

It's funny how time is always a good judge of tacky 'styling' modifications. They pretty much always end up being removed!

What a day, was at the circuit at 7am to grab a garage as the weather looked changeable, so after signing on, the track was opened at 9am (open pitlane format), was out there straight away, on the 17" wheels with questionable road tyres on.
As a comparison Rich was there in his stripped out rallye, caged, new r888's, decat and stainless exhaust, lowered and uprated suspension.
Power wise the two cars are identical. Torque wise the 206 has the legs out of the hairpin, but in the faster stuff, Rich was edging away. Before the haters start - bear in mind the 206 is fully trimmed and on chinese rubber...
After about 7 laps (full international circuit) Rich's oil temp was 140c+, the 206 sat at 100c all day long, so i could stop out for much longer.
In the morning i changed wheels to some 15" GTI6 Steelies, with trashed r888's on, just to see if it made a difference, and yes it did. Acceleration was much better, and even though they were well past their best, they gave much better grip over the new road tyres. So there is plenty of potential there!!!
Suspension wise the 206 is tired, so thats where the money will be spent next. The shagged 888's are being replaced with Federal 595 RS-R's in the near future and im looking at some coilovers for the front and some uprated dampers for the rear. Bushes at the front end will be changed for uprated ones and that should be it.
The weather had a turn for the worse after lunch, with rain most of the afternoon, the chinese tyres were tbh, worse than s**t, quite comical if im honest. It was loos central, at least it gave me an idea of what the chassis was like past the limit.
We gave it neck at 4pm and headed for home. I managed 154 miles on track today, and used about a tank of fuel and a 20litre jerry can, still got a 1/4 of a tank left, so better on fuel than the 306 also.
Just sorting some pics out now, and some video footage i shot off both mine and rich's rallye.

Looks like a great day out, I'm thinking 15's on mine when I change rims. Originally wanted 16's but I think 15's will do the job and tires will be cheaper lol.
Was the Rallye 16v'd?

Im still researching the best option for track / fast road suspension for the 206. I ran Bilstein B8's and Eibach springs on the 306 which i thought was a excellent compromise for both occasions. Is it a similar train of thought on the smaller 206?
Quality is important, some of the coilovers ive seen are almost too cheap to be true?? Are they rubbish that will last 12months then fall apart?
Anyway, back to the 180. My mate Mark sourced me a set of mint phase 2 Valeo OE crystal lamps for the front of a 20k mile late breaker, so this evening i carefully removed the morettes and fitted the correct lamps, with new bulbs throughout. The grille was refitted properly with the little hockey stick clips that always break, replaced with new Pug ones.
Looks loads better now.
Next job is to replace the broken o/s/f fog light and renew the orange capless bulbs in the side repeaters.
Oh, and the wiper arm decided to drop off as i was shutting the tailgate, so ive got a new arm and blade from pug, just need to carefully remove the centre of the old arm off the motor splines as its stuck solid.
The fun of old pugs eh!!

If you want decent coilover first all of go AST Sportline 2 or Sportline 1. If thats over your budget like me go over Bilstein B14. You will love it. But Bilstein B8 and eibach also fine.

Been tinkering away on the little s**tter this week, replaced the bulbs in the climate control unit so now you can see where the buttons are, replaced the 3 bulbs in the MFD display and the ashtray also.
Internally there's still more work to be done, the height adjuster on the driver seat is worn, so to fix it in its lowest postition, im after a base model 3dr drivers runner to swap over in time. After that its a set of tailored mats and a new gear knob and its done.
Externally, ive replaced the questionable morettes with mint phase 2 crystals, all new bulbs and cleaned up behind them, fitted a set of contoured genuine Pug mudflaps and replaced about 6 broken arch fixing clips with new ones. Managed to get the rear wiper changed, had to get the dremmel out on the siezed alloy "collar" which was stuck to the splines, new one went on easy enough.
Next job is the replacement of the drivers foglight as the upper fixings have gone awol, then get it ready for some paint in the new year.
Mechanically i'll be going down the route of Bilstein B8's and eibachs on the front, which should lose 30mm off ride height as well, and some B8's for the back. The rears already low enough, so will be left alone to see how its sits.
Theoretically that should be it........ LOL
I'll get a seperate for sale thread going for the Morettes and Lexus lights in due course.
