Happened whilst driving tonight, I've noticed a few clutch judders over the past week and not being as smooth going into first or at biting point, then tonight the revs dipped for 2 seconds, clutch went hard then I knew something was up, stopped for a few minutes and could smell what I thought was the clutch. Headed home and parked up for the night.

Think this may be the end of the 206. Just put a new alternator and aux belt on it aswell. I'll price up the parts in the meantime.

Any ideas what it may be. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks

Are you deffinitly sure thats the clutch as it sounds more like the auxilary belt slipping more than anything, see if the noise come during the day when the alternator isnt on so much load, i've never heard a clutch (thrust bearing ) make that kind of noise before unless it is well and trully dry, i have a good clutch removed out of a gti i broke if its any used to you?

I had a clutch release bearing wear on mine and the sound doesn't go away its a constant chirp even in neutral it only disappears when pedal is pressed in.

Sounds like a belt as mentioned above. If it is the aux belt if that fails it could get tangled around your drivebelt and break that too

Well thats a little bit of good news fellas as I ordered an Aux belt yesterday! I'll have a look at the belt after work as I had it off along with the power steering pump when changing the alternator. I've have a look at the belt and it looked a little dried and cracked, but refitted it and re-ordered.

Cheers mate how do I go about on the tension and tensioning it? I thought the 206 GT auto tensioned itself. This could be down to me not tensioning when I put the old belt back on. Waiting for new belt to be delivered, I suppose it wouldn't do me any harm ordering a new tensioner unit in the meantime and replacing as it squeaked a little before I changed the alternator hence me taking the belt off in the first place. I have a part number the tensioner unit of 5751-61 can anyone confirm? Ill be doing a step by step for members in future with these problems.

'big' problem tonight heading home, hopefully its related to the belt, (not got round to fitting the new one) Serious problems selecting any gear with alot of clutch judder and clutch pedal shaking? Any ideas? I thought it may be the aux belt slipping and holding up the clutch selection?!
