Gearbox went 6 months ago, apparently due to angles of driveshafts because it's lowered.. can't see this myself, I understand that they sit at different angles, but not enough to ruin a gearbox, as I've asked around and no ones had any problems with being low and ruining gearboxes..
Anyway, today it went again. It was replaced with a box out of a salvage car, which hadn't done hardly any miles. Replaced clutch at the same time with a genuine kit. Any ideas why my gearbox has gone again 6 months down the line??

planet gear or crown wheel?
either way that is because of your wheels and driving habit. MA box diff don't take abuse at all.

Right.....
First off your CV joints would die first and i personally think lucy was lower than yours and never died that death. I think the problem lies else where and is not related to the box

Your lucky, last year, my 1.4's box went after the diff winning for 18 months, replaced the box from salvage, not even a month later the diff blew itself out the side of the box.

I'm with you mate, people keep putting it down to my driving style, but I can honestly say I don't race round like an idiot, wheel spin and hand brake everywhere. I have a clean license, and a class 1 HGV so I've got alot to maintain lol.. I'll be in contact tomorrow, just for a little extra info..

I'll admit i drove like a complete knob head, and blew my first gearbox up that way.
I really cant see it being down to a low car, as the CV joints would cave first

well it could be the problem of the previous owner (donor gearbox)?

Exactly, and people like you, Uz and ruffy would have similar problems but don't. I'm 99% sure it's not down to my style of driving, yes I give it some every now and again, but I don't go round changing gear at red line, and wheel spinning away from junctions.. so unless I have to drive everywhere at 40, I'm ruling that out. The box was a salvage one, so seems unlike to be a dodgy one, although this could e a slight option. Other than that what you told me about engine mount and lower arm bushes, Im lost.

Latest verdict:
Took the car round to a reputable mechanic, who had a look underneath. He said that because its so low, the driveshafts have too much "play" in them due to the angle they're sat at, and basically have ripped the teeth off of the planet gears. Any views on this?

Thats pretty amazing since the CV joints is what take the slack. And if there was play there would all might of noise and problems
