Hi all,
The rear axle O/S has had it and I'm after another one.
The car is a 2001 pre-plex with drums and ABS, now the breakers near me have got a none ABS axle with drums and I was thinking, could I get that axle remove the arms off it and use my old arms so I still have ABS?

all you need to do is reuse your old drum, back plate and sensor

Awesome, so the ABS sensor is just mounted to the back plate and not the arm?

yes, it is plugged onto the back plate

well...
drum axle worth nothing....even on ebay you can get one with just half of that price.

Wow, I didn't realise until now that you can replace the shaft the bearings rotate around, I thought the shaft went from one side to the other.

I've replaced the bearings thinking that would sort my beam out but I've still got play in the joint because the shaft has worn because of the bearings had failed for sometime.
Has any one replaced that shaft before? I can imagine it to be a pain as it's probably seized in there good and proper. Anyone know how it comes out?

of course you can buy the shaft...
but you will be struggle to get the old shaft out as they are pressed on to the main beam.
but saying that most axle rebuild company can do that; that why they will buy any old axle (unless it is bended) and then rebuild it.
as far as i remember the rebuild kit (including the stud tube) is fairly cheap to buy (less than 50 quid)

Haha, I could see me trying to fitting the shaft only for the whole assembly to come off and over take me on the motorway.
Yep, I think I might just replace the whole lot axle.

you could always contact any axle rebuild company to exchange your old axle for some cash.

My bearings were seized on off side, so I thought I would replace bearings myself and shaft if necessary. After a lot of research decided to get a recon axle from IM axles. Ian reckoned it was seized absolutely solid and one of the worst ones they'd seen.
Glad I didn't do it myself now!!
