Come on macca all those stars and you post a quote like this???????there is still a lot of obvious air flow to circulate around the engine compartment but there obviously water cooled anyway....i think that even if it was possible to seal the entire engine bay,except the front intakes,that with the movement driving causes. circulation would still be good enough just entering and exiting airflow through the ftont vents...
But in truth it would be no where near sealed tight by fitting a skid plate because firstly the skid plate would have to have air vents incorporated into its design and secondly there would still be plenty of gaps around the steering and susspension arms letting plenty of airflow move around...and lastly there is still plenty of airflow happening above the plate whete the exhaust makes its way back to the rear giving plenty of exiting air even if the other flow channels managed to be blocked off...
Not a good idea to install one as you'll interfere with the air flow and cooling.
This did cross my mind but then surely the rad keeps the water / engine pretty cool and air is taken from the front grill and over the rad via the upper front grill so still a fair bit of cooling there but the air intake is a little more tricky as you know, I think I'll take a good look tomorrow and see if I can draw something up that won't have too much effect on the cooling or air intake.
I'd have thought it was more to do with where the air comes out than goes in. As you say the air goes through the front, but can't be much good keeping that air in the engine compartment as it will just keep heating up and have no where to escape.
Might be worth having a word with Mac and asking him how having one on affects the rally car temperature.
I don't think i will ever run this car as hard as a rally car but if I ever did I could remove it, I'm think more of a winter thing. Admittedly there's a lot to think about when fitting an engine guard but no one will no for sure if it will effect their engine temperature whilst driven how they drive until they go ahead and fit one to find out
