You got a brick permanently on the gas pedal or something? My 01 1.4 LX would get 39 when running aircon and being pretty heavy footed for a week, 45 when i was driving normally with no aircon (and even then i accelerate quite harshly).

I'd say give it a good service, best thing you can do to a second hand car as you really don't know how its been treated

Nowadays we should be measuring how much litre we are putting in tank over the cost,i can only get like 8 litre from my petrol station for cost of £10 and that only last me a week and 2 days if im lucky lol.

Hi,
Just to clarify, both drivers of this car are making an effort to drive in an economical way. Getting this kind of fuel consumption is a very unpleasant surprise.
When I bought a car from a dealer rather than from RandomJoe on eBay, I really expected that some servicing and checks were made prior to the sale. Clearly this was not the case.

ah yes. internet search to the rescue:
uk.answers.yahoo.com/q...157AAFef3Y
Condensed version:
Q: "What would happen if I had a blocked air filter?"
A: "about 2x the normal fuel consumption, engine management warning lights on, followed by disastrous failure."

Hi all,
Just last week I was so happy to join this club and now I am thinking of returning my 2004 Peugeot 206S 1.4 to the dealer.
I have driven this car for just 80 miles, about 50% city and even considering the recent cold weather I am finding it hard to believe that 24.6 miles to the gallon (11.6l for 100Km) is within reason for a car that is working correctly.
I am comparing my fuel figures with those of other owners who have published them in Fuelly.com and I am astounded.
Any views on what can cause this kind of fuel consumption? The same driving style was resulting in more than 40mpg from a 2001 Ford Ka 1.3.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Clean the Air Filter..
Check the Tank for Cracks/Holes
Check the Pipes for Splits etc
Take it on to a hill facing up the hill and rev the tits off it, turn it round ( so its facing down ) and rev the tits off it again then park it on a level ground area and again rev the tits off it, then check for fuel leakage
make sure the car was serviced propperly and not just had the light reset..
if your doing lots of short journeys then your car will use more fuel than traveling 100miles to and from work on a daily basis
if none of this helps i think its a problem... try replacing the connection between the accelerator and the steering wheel

Thanks for the instructions. The symptoms seem to be all for dirty/clogged filters rather than fuel tank spills. I always park in the same space and with the light snow today it should be easy to spot any leaks.
