Hello, i am stuck with my PUG 206
For a long time now the temperature gauge doesn't go above 70 even if i give it a hard drive. The only time it will go to around 90 is if i run it at a fast idle for around 10 mins.
I decided to give it a coolant change incase there was any blockage. I used a branded coolant flush, and refilled with antifreeze, hoping this would cure the problem (as there was alot of gunk that game out on the first drain) but it still wont go over 70 unless i do a fast idle. Can anyone advise me on what could be wrong?? could the thermostat need replacing?? Also just to add that the heater is warm, but not as hot as when i put it on when i have had it on a fast idle!
Thanks
Martin

I'd start with replacing the Thermostat for sure.

+1 change the thermostat. It will also improve fuel consumption by 2 - 3 mpg.

You will probably find it runs at about 80 rather than 90; not all but most seem to.
You will probably find the fan cuts in at about 90; again not all but most seem to.

These temperatures are lower than most expect but that is what these seem to do.

A blockage will cause an over-heat not running cool.

IS this a diesel or petrol? The diesels will run cooler than the petrol anyway.

it should reach 90oC when it's warm, then it open when it's 95-97oC,so change the thermostat, and bleed the coolant system .

Hi
just to let you all know i replaced the thermostat today, and it all seems to be running fine. I did however manage to shear the bleed bold off the engine block, but managed to sort it out. What was strange is that there was no old thermostat to replace!!!
Does anyone know why this could be?

Someone's obviously taken it out. Shouldn't matter really, just would take longer for he engine to warm uP.
