right guys! been away for a while but im seriously considering buying another pug (miss mine quite a bit).
but heres my dilemma. do i go for a gti180 or 207 gti thp?
both are available for fair money these days. at the moment im swaying towards the 207 just mainly due to the fact its turbocharged and would love another bov after owning an mr2 tubby for a year, but at the same time im dubious about the 1.6 engines, whereas ive always had a thing for french 2.0l engines!
so therefore my question is whats everyone opinion on both cars? i want genuine unbiased opinions here guys.
thanks, rob

Cool

i do think the 207 is a nicer place to be sat in, but after owning loads of turbo cars yes they are easy to tune but also there is more to go wrong.
the 207 engine has not got the best reviews for reliablity whereas the 180 is a proven good engine.
ok like all frech cars they do have there faults (both of them) but i own 2 180 and tbh they both been good cars and good fun to drive.
i would say if doing alot of long runs then matbe the 207 is a better car as not quite so harsh to drive but for local work then the 180 is better imo.

What will a 180 average mpg wise? 30mpg?
I imagine the 207 is capable of giving more. I'd always go for the newer car if budget will stretch.

I'm with Edward.

'I'd always go for the newer car if budget will stretch.'

That said the 207's seem to be problematic so I'd stick with a 180 and save money for bricks and water. The 180 is quicker aswell from what I've found a few times unless the 207 has been modded.

My step Dad has a 207 GTI and hes got the problem with the engine misifire that Pug cannot seem to explain, and I got a mate with the exact same problem! The engine is very problematic, but I think it is a more modern looking car to the 180! and a bit safer if it saw the wrong side of a tree Smile

180 because the 175 is nothing but problems from what I've been told from 207 owners. When they're running they're perfect. But when they go wrong they go wrong.

Having owned a 207 GTI I am biased... 180 all day long! Nothing but problems and it took 4 tires to fix an erratic turbo failure over the 3 years I had it, plus being told that my cat was rattling, only to discover it was the timing chain which failed and decimated the engine causing a complete rebuild with all new parts... Basically wouldn't have one if you gave it to me Very Happy (does that sound biased Confused ) Oh very nice interior, comfy lots of toys to play with whilst you wait for recovery Rolling On The Floor Laughing
