I just changed my HDi speedo to a GTi speedo of the same year. Two plug type.

Everything works as it should, just the odometer that it very dim.

I can't even make out the numbers in the dark, you really have to focus on it to make anything out. Something you can't do while driving. They are there and the wrench is too but it's very dim.

When I first saw this I took out the bulb from my HDi one and stuck that it, thinking it's the bulb but no luck.

I am pretty sure I had the same issue with the HDi one when I got the car but over time it became bright...

The speedo came off a 'broken' GTi maybe it sat for a while and needs to be on for a while?

Any ideas? Sad

Did you know you can alter the brightness of the speedo with the roller switch to the right of the steering wheel.

I forgot! Laughing I DO remember now! Embarassed

I must have knocked it back while changing the speedo. Confused

I just thought it was the odometer display since it was a foreign speedo and didn't think to check the roller.

Thanks Very Happy

Isn't your rev counter incorrect now though?

Yes, it's what ever the GTi did...

Back to the issue.

I did check that the roller is in place and it wasn't far off.
But it's still too dim to see really.
When I installed it, it escaped my mind to check the roller as I always had it on full as soon as I found it because the HDi was also set too dim.
I seen a pic of the speedo in the GTi and it was lit up so you could see it in daylight too, it was a 'burn in' kinda look, very sharp over the dark screen.

Any ideas? Could it be the position of the odometer, maybe it fell out during transit it was with the axle all the way...

You could check the connections are clean, maybe the switch is knackered. The mfd is the same brightness as the speedo, how does yours compare?
