Last week I started the car, turned on de-mister and shut the door to de-ice my windows. I then couldn't get back in through the doors as the car had locked itself! What's worse is I couldn't find the spare key, but thankfully the boot opened and crawled in the back to take the key out!
I thought this was very odd as after physically pressing the button next to hazard lights, all doors should lock. But this did it without me pressing anything!
Recently I have had random messages on the MFD - one last week saying "engine immobiliser fault" but nothing out of the ordinary followed.
Today when I started car to go to work, on first start up it had "brake fault", turned off then on again "handbrake on", so I thought i'd give it a 3rd go, as all things come in 3s! And this time the car fired up, no messages, but a delay in the rev counter, by only a few seconds and then a locking noise..
The car locked itself again! I was in the car obviously so didn't have any issues this time.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Handbrake warning comes on, on mine sometimes, dont worry about it. Do you have autolocking, and is it enabled? (Turn ignition on, and hold the lock button on the MFD)

If I had autolocking it would have locked the doors the 1st and 2nd time I started the car up...
There was a distinct clicking noise after the rev counter came alive and then that locked the doors. Almost like I had pressed the button, but I hadn't.

What details do you require?
2005 1.6 HDI GTI
I've been told all french electrics are crap so don't go abusing me about the engine and how it was the wrong car to buy etc

I had to go to site earlier and after i got back in car to go back to work the centre little plastic thing instead the hazard lights and door locking - was flashing
havent noticed this before, but I was expecting the door to lock when I shut it - but it didnt and the flashing stopped....

The flashing light just means the immobilizer/alarm is active.
Perhaps it's a dodgy battery as sometimes this can cause random events and silly error messages?
