sorry for the overload of information here but figure the more the better. so the GTI has a lumpy idle when cold but smoothed out once warm and dropped to 800rp, and held steady no problems.

Took it to surrey to see old man Krisb to get the cambel tensioner and water pump done, since then it is continuing to run lumpy when hot. idles fluctuates a minor amount (maybe 150rpm) down, and the juddering isnt constant but its there at least every few seconds but a lot gentler.

Ive cleaned out the plug-wells and plugs (stupid NGK but they were in before anyway) two are slightly white/grey and not smooth. Also went to clean out the throttle body but it was pristine almost. Have finally taken it for a good raggin with some redex (i know, before the ney-sayers start lol) but its still lumpyish.

It has thrown up the cat/anti-pollution fault twice, both times clearing itself after 20miles general driving, once before and once since cambelt was done.

Any suggestions before i end up forking out silly money for machine-time to test it?

forgot to add, does sound like its blowing a tad at the exhaust and does give a bit of a wobble when ya stop the engine but not all the time

Thanks guys

Did krisb do the cambelt change? His work is usually impeccable. Don't know if the timing would have anything to do with it.

waiting to get that sorted tonight hopefully, but had a look at few the main culprits. cleaned throttle body, new plugs, cleaned ICV buuuut didnt realise how it worked so put it back in without testing if it actually moves lol. DID find a small hole in exhaust in the join between backbox and centre pipe. and spraying carb cleaner didnt reveal any obvious leaks on intake seal, though didnt have the a**e to check for cracks other than areas visible from above. been a fun day for a n00b lol
