Just writing this as it might help someone else.
About a month ago my 206 hdi starting making a knocking noise and coil spring creaking noise from drivers side front, this happened after my car had been sitting for a week in the last lot of snow we had.
I was convinced that the coil spring maybe was broken or the shock absorber was useless, after inspection could not find anything wrong with the spring or shock and could not find anything at the front end with wear or play in it.
I finally found the problem to be the bottom drivers side drop link to be seized solid and that what was making the spring noise and knocking noise by not moving with the suspension as it should,i only replaced the drop links 6 months earlier so didnt suspect them to be cause of the fault and only by disconnected the drop link at the bottom did i find the fault.

Hope this might help someone in the future.

They were not original parts but pattern ones, other side is fine so suspect lack of grease or no grease at all in the one that has caused the problem, made a small hole in gaitor and sqirted some lube in which freed it up but have got some original one's coming which i will replace in the summer or before .
