Since i have owned the car, about 2 year opening the drivers door has never turned the courtesy light on, passenger side does and if i remove the key from the ignition the light comes on.
I also dont get a warning sound if the lights have been left on, this has caused a few flat batteries, i know the switch is built into the lock.
What are my options, a new lock or could the wiring be at fault, the electric window works fine.
Cheers for any help.

The 'door closed' switch is built-in to the lock unit (latch/solenoid etc) of the door as you say so replace lock.
The lights warning comes from a buzzer in the BSI.
It only comes-on when you open driver's door I think (same as keys left in ignition barell warning) so it would make sense.

I don't get a warning if I leave the keys in the barrel either, the problem could be more than just the door lock, might just leave it.
In regards to changing the door lock, is it just a matter of replacing the lock unit, I wouldn't need to change the exterior door lock, I can still use the key I have now, if so I can try and get a unit from a scrap yard.
