Howdy,
Yesterday I put £20 of unleaded in my 1.4 2002 206, if it makes any difference, a key was left in the car on the 1st/2nd notch and the radio was on low. I used the second key to fill her up...
After filling the gauge notch is stuck a hair above the last line. When I turn the engine on and off, the gauge goes right to the bottom, but upon turning the engine on, it goes back to the same position each time.
I've only driven 15 miles since filling, so i'm not sure if the gauge is still going down, I don't think so though.
Looking around the net it appears to be problem with the Fuel Sender unit? I believe I can access it via the rear passenger seat...
Could it be anything else? If I disconnected the battery and cleared the ecu, would it make any difference?
And if it is the sender unit, are they universal, i.e would a 1.1 model version fit my 1.4?

Fill the tank to the brim & this time don't leave the ignition on while you do it.
Good idea to also lock the car with the remote while filling up so the BSI goes to sleep.
The fuel gauge on a multiplexed 206 works in a different way to an old fashioned car.

I had this last week and again this morning.
Is there a cause and solution for this happening?

I reset the BSI 3 times today, it had no effect.
Tomorrow morning I'll fill up the tank to the brim and see what happens...
I've now driven 50 miles since it occured and the needle has lowered by about 3mm, just a couple of hairs. So it is going down, just not much...I wonder what happens if it reaches the bottom and the yellow light comes on, even when i've got fuel in it?!
Anyway i'll take your advice MR.BSI and fill her up in the morning!

I banged the floor under the passenger seat and hey presto it worked! Seems I have a dodgy unit

Well, after resetting the BSI as I previously mentioned and checking the wiring on the Fuel Sender Unit, none of the made any difference...
Once the yellow light came on (even though I had a good chunk of petrol in the tank) I filled her up.
Boom. Its working.
The floating arm must have been stuck or something?!
Anyway, thanks for the help, I'll see how it goes and hopefully it will not recur...

More a quirk of how a multiplexed fuel gauge actually works 
You leaving the ignition on when filling up is what caused the issue.

Is it just down to laziness why you left it in the barrel?
Wouldn't take much for someone to pinch your keys while your not looking either.

Can you not turn the radio back by pressing the power button on when the keys are out of the ignition?
I've done it on mine a couple of times, but it's still got the standard HU fitted. It turns itself off when the car goes into eco mode.

Re: leaving the keys in the ignition. A friend was driving that day, I was filling up with another key, he was listening to the radio, and yes, you don't need the keys in order for the radio to work.
Lesson Learned.
