Hya,

Today I'm going to dismantle and give pistons a good [copper] greasing / generic clean of brake components.

All because I hear driver-side front brakes squeak (when brake pedal is -not- pressed) at low speeds only and during high temperatures (warmer day/longer journey)

Would you have any other tips where to look into, or tests to run before I undo all the caliper nuts?

give the brake pad shims a good cleaning as well, these can gunk up over time and cause the brake pads to bind to the brake disc. Smile

Make sure the caliper sliders are fully lubricated, this sorted squeaky brakes on both mine and my dads brakes.

Do not use copper grease on anything touching the seals or rubber dust covers. Over time this will perish them so use red rubber grease for that. Copper grease is great for all the metal-to-metal contact surfaces but not recommended for the rubbers.

Sadly the squeak is still there.

Last Sunday I carefully smeared (deposited a ~1mm layer) on the back of the outer brake pad, where metal-metal contact gets in, with CV Joint Grease (Moly-Lithium), also around the ears of the brake pads.
I also smeared the outer part of the piston, which presses the inner brake pad.

The brake pads were changed July 2012, they are still thick enough: Mintex MDB2012 (BPS2619) - they have no shims.

Sadly the squeak is still there. I read that smearing grease on shimless pads where caliper presses would reduce squeak. But logically I cannot explain that - how can grease work as an adhesive?

I probably need to get some shims and put them on.

Caliper sliders were lubricated back in July 2012 using copper grease, and there is still enough of that inside. No visible damage to rubber seals or covers.

Before yesterday I smeared all metal-to-metal touchpoints with copper grease, gave a generous layer for the outer caliper blades, but squeaking still persists..

Could it be the inner edge of your disc has a lip that is rubbing on your pad or caliper looking at the picture

Pads will wear to the shape of the lipping so that alone shouldn't be causing the squeal.

It looks like you have done a good job so you are on a difficult one here.

Do you frequently drive on dusty (gravel) roads. If you do squealing can be impossible to eliminate.

Do your pistons move freely in the callipers? It could be corrosion on the pistons making them stiff in the callipers. Strip the calliper and lift the dust seal on the piston and see how much corrosion or crud is on the piston.

I have the same problem paid someone to get the job done getting all the parts cleaned lubricated but when its warm the skeaking still persists

If that was mine you would be able to see a good covering of copper grease all over the back of the pad, cant see any on yours in the pic ? try taking the pads out and give the backs a good covering of copper grease to ensure any contact point meets with copper grease.

Some Mintex pads come with anti-squeal shims some don't the ones i have just fitted has the shims so i didn't copper grease,so just waiting for the squealing.
It also could be the hub bearing test with a squirt of lubricant.
