As the title says, I want to replace the air filter in my XSi, don't know if its worth investing 30£ or simply buy an OEM one for 8£..
Pros\Cons?

I always change my OEM air filters to a K&N one. Simply, because I get a higher MPG.

But, you also only have to clean it every 50,000 miles or so. So, instead of replacing a rubbish paper air filter, I just check it for leaves!

I think I didn't explain myself correctly.. I actually know the pro's and con's of the higher end panel filters, my question is, are they so much better than OEM one's that they are worth investing 4 times the money on?, I mean, yeah, after 4 OEM filter replacing I could have bought a k&n one and I got my money's worth, but I'm more interested to know about noise levels (louder isn't worse for me..) and the general "feel" of the performance after swapping (real not placebo..)

That K&M filter will always be worth £15-£20 second hand so you'll be able to sell it afterwards.

not the case.... you can blow out the K&N with an airline to keep it in better condition.... unlike a paper OEM Wink

Timon! How are you buddy? Well I was thinking about selling the 206 but decided to hold on to it for now so as long as it's here to stay I might as well take care of it.. Funny because since I decided to keep it I've grown even more fond of it Smile nice to hear from you too!

Macj - thanks for the reply mate, I can understand k&n is "better" just because it is.. But still wanted to hear what people have to say about it, I think I'll end up going for one eventually.

I got a K&N for mine ages ago.
Mrs' came with a BMC when we bought it from the previous owner.

I really investigated both and decided they were letting less air through than a standard paper filter.
So I cleaned, v. lightly re-oiled with the proper stuff and again, less air-flow.
Cleaned a second time, even less (hardly any) oil and still couldn't get an improvement.

I decided maybe they were permanently clogged somehow OR not doing what their claiming.
Still have them and will check with PP2000 (intake mBar vacum from MAP sensor?) to make a better conclusion, when I get some time.

V9977 good to see you too buddy, great answer! exactly what I wanted to hear, how exactly did you measure the intake amount? I'll still wait to learn more about it before I'll decide on an aftermarket vs OEM.

Well, I think the best way of checking might be to go in Peugeot Planet real-time data, and look at the manifold absolute pressure reading comparing with the paper and K&N filters. Surely the more air-flow allowed would give a higher reading and also a different angle on the ICV stepper too (for a given rpm). I haven't got round to doing this yet though, anyone know why it wouldn't work?

Previous checks have been very obvious by inspection, but it was a while back and I wouldn't offer as real evidence.
