Hi, as my daughter was parking her peugeot 206, 14 petrol to-day she noticed a lot of steam and water coming from the expansion bottle cap, when the car had cooled down,I re filled the bottle with water, I noticed that the rubber seal inside the cap was not seated evenly in the groove but half on one groove and the rest on a lower groove, the seal also looked stretched, would this seal in this condition cause the car to overheat like this and allow coolant to escape or is there another reason? thanks in advance for any replies,Mike.

Hi
If the seal / cap is not fitted properly I would assume you could lose coolant this way. I believe you can get a replacement from peugeot.
Is the car showing any other signs of overheating?

Hi Tolkienfan, the only other sign is a hissing sound from the cap area, which is probably due to the seal not sealing properly, car runs ok except for the escaping fluid/steam

New expansion bottle cap is a wallet busting £3.79 including the VAT from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer.

Hi guys, update on the expansion cap situation, I bought a new cap today ( £5.20 ), went for a 15 mile run to test, the temp gauge went up to between 70 and 90 during the run, no sign of any steam or coolant loss when I checked after stopping, but the top radiator rubber? pipe felt very hot when I touched it, is this normal??.

I would like to met the person that answers this! I have never taken the car for a run (to running temp) and then start touching parts under the bonnet to see if they are hot.
