Hi guys, Im hoping somebody will have a few suggestions for me. Around a month ago I noticed that the car didn't seem as lively as it was & fuel economy dropped big time. Had it plugged in & the engine coolant sensor was changed (green sensor) it was then better but not back to normal.

However, since then the car seems to have moods. . .1 day it is fine & feels really nippy & other days it seems slugish and won't accelerate up any kind of hill!

Its had new spark plugs, coil pack & I don't buy supermarket fuel & don't always buy from the same petrol station.

Im only guessing now but could the fuel pump be on its way out, fuel filter blocked or the injectors clogged? The injectors are very noisy & everybody does comment on them but they always have been noisy. Am I right in thinking that the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump?

well depend on your car model,some 206's got the fuel filter under the fuel tank,and some models have it inside the tank,which don't need replacement as it cleans it's self all the time,so take a look under the car,drivers side,and see if there is a filter fixed in there or not.

How many miles you have on the clock?the fuel filter can be a reason to have the powerloss,as the fuel pump send the fuel to the engine,and if it's blocked,then the engine won't have as much fuel as it needs,so it worth checking.

Also an advice for the next fuel filling,buy a WURTH injector cleaner,and add it to the fuel,it will clean all the fuel system,and the sound of injectors will get smoother Smile

I've got a 1.6 16v XSI Quicksilver & its done 78,000miles. Im pretty sure its an intank filter as I tried looking for the filter earlier using the Haynes manual. Its really frustrating because when I do a long journey (200miles ish) the car really picks up.

Does the Haynes cover 1.6 16 valve?

Stick some redex / millers fuel additive on a full tank off 99 octane fuel and give it a good going over down some country lanes. My old XSi when first put it on the road was doing it even after fitting an induction kit and a full service but after a good blowout the car ran like a dream.

The only thing I can think of it being is the mixing of fuels regardless of whether you use supermarket fuel or not. I personally only use Tesco's Momenteum 99 ron and miller fuel additives every 2.5k miles.

Number 2 (external filter)isn't listed as being fitted to your model
 


My guess is that it is part of number 2 of this one

thanks very much guys for the help. So the filter & pump come as 1 unit? Does it give any prices on that site? Also can anybody register for that site. . .looks extremely useful. I shall also try a combination of the fuel additive + 99 octaine fuel.

Just a minor note but I noticed a few days back that my backbox exhaust pipe is quite a bit smaller than the 1.6 16v xsi I park next to at work. His car has not been modified in any way! On doing a little research I've noticed its the same size as the 1.4? Would having a 1.4 backbox make any difference?

Anyone can register for servicebox, you just need to be a bit liberal with the registration details.

1525Y1 Gauge with pump £193.63

It is possible a different backbox could cause problems, if the gases can't escape quick enough, then it could cause back pressure and create a kind of exhaust brake scenario.

Your backbox is part 1730GP £142.68
There are a few alternatives for the 1.4 (TU3JP) but 1730GP is one of them

Well that does make sense. Would it be worth putting the gti/rc backbox on? Or would that have an adverse affect?

However as said most 206 do not have a sepperate replacable fuel-filter, it's integral with the pump and supossedly self-cleaning.

Just checked, yours is also integral with the fuel pump and there is no sepperate filter canister that you need to replace.
In the following diagram you can see that part number 2 (canister) is not listed on the right which means it's not fitted.
