Ok, this may sound like a strange one and I've never encountered it before and not heard other owners mention it.

At over 50mph driving into a headwind there's a deep humming noise. It's definately wind noise, no doubt about it.

The thing is, where exactly is it coming from? Bonnet vents? Grille? It only happens on windy days and when the car drives into headwinds at certain angles but say if you're on a dead straight section of the A1 for several miles it's obviously annoying.

If it's the bonnet vents then that's no big deal, there's another 206 around Ashington with the vents removed and replaced with mesh, looks pretty good too. If it's the grille then I'll look for a replacement on Ebay or something, for a few quid I don't mind if it gives some peace and quiet.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Never heard it on mine, but my dad has just fitted his roof rack and that makes one hell of a hum above 30.

Do you have wind deflectors on the windows? Maybe it's the air rushing past one of those.

Door slam plates not adjusted correctly so doors misaligned with boddywork?
Or
Has the car ever suffered from a break in. Thugs sometimes bend the window frames to get a tool onto the locking buttons; the bent frames can make that noise.
Or
Are the front and rear bumpers correctly aligned with the bodywork and fully secured?
Or
Damaged / loose door mirrors
Or
Worn / missing rubber seals on doors or windows.
Or
Flapping door or window seal.
Or
Fuel filler cap not locking tight.
Or
Rear hatch not properly aligned.

Basically any panel that isn't aligned or is slightly loose can cause all sorts of strange noise. It could even be something under the car.

Checked your pollen filter and vent air intake?

Aerial type fitted?

Are you positive it's not inside the cabin?

Could also be loose resonator and or air filter box.

Have you now fitted the spoiler?!

No the spoiler's not fitted yet and it seems to be coming from the front, probably engine bay area so it could well be the air filter box. It only seems to happen when driving into a headwind at a slight angle. I'll have to have a good look and make sure everything's nice and tight.

Cheers guys
