So just had the car into the dealers and they only found one issue.

Slight leak on the head gasket.

They have quoted me

Cyl head gasket x1 part PE00000209FL
Cyl head bolt x 10 part PE00000204A5
Gasket rock x1 part PE00000249E2 I have no idea what this is?
Gasket rock x1 part PE00000249C5 I have no idea what this is?
Exh bkt seal x1 part PE0000170933 I have no idea what this is?
Cool liquid x3 part PE00009735K1

Total parts £89.11 + vat

Labour 8hrs @ £82/hr = £656 + vat

Total price £894.13

I think not!

My neighbour has done several head gaskets and rebuilt a couple of engines, so he has told me to get the parts and he will do it with me over a weekend.

I have a Haynes manual, is there anything specific to a 206 we need to be aware of please?

Thanks

I noticed they haven't quoted for a timing belt kit, normally if your going to all the trouble to change the cylinder head gasket you would do the timing belt at the same time while the engine is apart - unless the belt has alrwady been done very recently.

Buy the parts yourself from the cheapest source and get someone from here to do it? Even if you have to travel 250 miles (the extreme!), it would well be worth it. Maybe a 250 pound total bill instead of 900...

6 litres of anti-freeze? At Pug in Tewkesbury we tend to do 3 litres of 1 litre bottles (9735K4) for head jobs.
Get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook.

I will point out every TU has an oil leak. About 15k they leak, so even if you do replace it will just leak again

Personally I would replace it eventually. But for the majority of the time I would just clean the block and let it continue
