Hello ive had a 1999 V reg 206 1.1 for a month now (first ever Pug). It refused to start about 9 days ago. It cranks but does not start. Ive searched forums and have so far replaced the fuel pump, the coil pack and the spark plugs without any joy. An electrical / diagnostic "specialist" came out today. His diagnostic reader could not pick up anything from the ECU. he tested the ECU relay, wire and fuses (all seem OK) the Crank sensor was tested and seemed OK it was 0.400amps or volts or something!? (some resistance but should still work). There is no spark on the plugs when turned over. He told me it would need longer to diagnose but he suspected the ECU is no good as he could not get any codes from it and everything it controls i.e. spark plugs not sparking are not working (I could only afford him for 1 hour at a cost of £60!) The battery to earth seemed ok. Would this be the case that the ECU is shot? If this is so what are the most practical and cost effective ways of doing this? It is the Peugeot / Citroen TU1JP 1124cc engine.

Any Advice appreciated please help Richard X

I had the same issue with mine, the key ha fallen apart earlier in the day and I lost the chip inside of it, so it refused to start, I used the spare key and it started fine.

Id check the earth strap aswell...just be very carefull when doing it but it can be tested as easily as taking a jump lead and connecting one end to a larger metal part of the engine..and the other end to your batterys earth terminal...

Now see if it will fire up???
But be carefull not to touch the cars body, the battery, the lead or the engine as there is a large amount of ampage at work here..12volt battery or not.

You need to see if the transponder chip is still inside the key, its easily lost if the key is dropped & the case comes apart.

If the transponder chip is missing then it needs replacing with a new virgin one OR a new replacement key, either way it would need recoding.

Be warned: non plexed remote key fobs are no longer available from Peugeot, its standard non remote keys only.

Ive requested a few quotes from auto locksmiths, im pretty sure the transponder chip is not there and has been lost. Im a bit peeved that this £60/hour "expert" has missed this, and if thats the reason the car wont start, i will be sending him an email asking for a refund!!!

If you pop open the key you will soon know if its there or not, Its a tiny tiny chip tucked in in the corner next to where the blade comes into the actual shell of the key.

cheapest quote i can get for someone doing a new chip is £80! I have left a voicemail to the previous owner on whether he has a spare key or the key code card. Does anyone know if there is some place you can access the key code card database for free? a long shot i know but worth a try

Peugeot main dealer MIGHT if you ask very nicely BUT they need photo Id & proof of ownership before they will release any security codes / keys / locks.

There are a couple of people on here who can get the key code from the VIN but there is a small charge they have to pass on.

Remote keys for non plexed 206's are no longer available new from Peugeot UNLESS they have one gathering dust on a shelf.

Part number 9170N7 - Non remote key £25.91.

Does your 206 have deadlocks fitted as the remote key type is different if it has.

PM the VIN if your not sure.

EDIT: I MAY have found a new non plexed deadlocking remote fob at a supplier I know of.
I also know of another supplier that has new non deadlocking type remote fobs in stock.

Hi all i have mssg this £60 an hour diagnostic expert asking for some money back and he sent a message back saying:

"Hi, there must be a fault with your system, otherwise I would have been able to do a fault code read and it would of told me there was a problem with the key, and also there should be a key symbol on the dash if there was a problem with the key"

So now i have photo'd the offending key if someone could please confirm the chip is not in there? and is he making excuses for not doing a 30 second manual check? thaks for the help and advice thus far
