Try some 21mm bars them. Too cheap to ignore. A step in the right direction.

My new BNIB Pug fog light landed today, so simple old me thinks, "yeah 5 minute job that...." Once id got the wheel off, arch liner out, washer bottle out could i actually fit the damned thing!!

Good news is its not crusty underneath at least.

Did my usual colouring of the front fogs yellow, so at least it looks like a carbon copy of the wifes 206 now lol

 


Waiting on the V5 to come now so i can get my private plate put on it, then start buying some stuff after payday.

Got the original "sport" lower bumper grille on this afternoon, general internet forum opinion was the bumper HAS to come off.. meh, goes on just fine with the bumper in situ, lots of skinned knuckles but fits fine and looks 100% better than the SP alloy grille IMO. Next job will be to replace the bonnet vent with a normal plastic GTi one. Both SP parts will then be sold on.

 


Then fitted the foglight covers, major faff, had to jack the front up, remove the splash shields and unbolt the foglight, fit the cover then refit. They fit ok and look very discrete, just hold water drops between the cover and the lamp when you've washed the damned car!!

 


Gave both the 206's a quick wash and heres how they look.

 

 


Next up suspension work over the next few weeks, along with a n/s driveshaft seal as thats leaking ive noticed as well.:driver:

GTi180 Specific Eibach springs will be here on Monday then i'll get the Bilstein B8's on order.

Not done a fat lot to the 206 over the xmas break, i did change the heater matrix as it was starting to "sweat" a bit, with the odd whiff of coolant in the cabin. Piece of cake to do, took just over an hour start to finish. Used a New Genuine Peugeot matrix and plastic link pipes to the bulkhead, so thats another job done.

I'm amassing parts in the garage at the moment, have a new set of Eibach springs, Janspeed exhaust system, K & N Panel filter, and some Bilstein B8 dampers for the front and rear.

I'm also needing the following...

2 x sets of OE 16" nimrod alloys for track use
spare wheel cage and fittings - may as well fit one when the janspeed goes on

Once the works done, i'll be stripping parts of the engine bay out to get painted/powdercoated then some exterior paintwork to keep me busy.

Booked up to do a two day trackday at Spa-francochamps in Belgium, followed by a day at the Nurburgring (all in June) so thats to look forward to as well.

Bout time i got my ass into gear and did some work on it, apart from just driving the damned thing.

I'd been collecting new suspension for the s**tter since Christmas, and the final pieces arrived this week. So we have got...

Bilstein B8 Front dampers
Bilstein B8 rear dampers
Eibach GTi180 specific springs
New drop links x 2
New top mount bearings x 2
New suspension top mounts x 2

 


Mark (1600i) offered to give me a hand round his this afternoon - in other words he'd get on with it and i'd stand around farting and trying not to get in the way LOL!

We soon discoverd the old stuff was, shall we say a tad worn?

 

 

 


Utterly f**ked more like. Top mount bearings had fell apart and the shockers were the originals, saying that the ride was ok, and the steering wasnt overly heavy, mad really. The original springs were quite crusty as well.

All built back up quickly and expertly by Mark, and refitted no probs.

The back shocks were also original and again, equally tired, and with the benefit of air tools, both rear dampers were fitted in less than 5 mins.

While the wheels were off, i decided to remove the SP pack wheel arch extensions, as in my eyes they make the 206 look even worse than normal, so they came off no bother, and make it look loads better.

As some will now, the "sporty" 206's came with the alloy finished fuel cap, now depending on body colour, they either blend in, like on the wifes Silver one, or stand out like an inflamed clitoris on the darker ones, like my Aagean Blue ones.

 



So, not been a fan of it, I stripped the cap from the inner workings, bunged it in the sink and scrubbed it with Fairy, dried it and then scotchpad'd it up in readyness for for Primer

Etch primered it up
 


Painted it with 4 coats of Halfrauds finest Aagean Blue

 



4 coats of Halfrauds Laquer

 


Flashed it off with the hot air gun, then bunged it in the airing cupboard overnight to dry fully.

Refitted this morning, quite pleased with it.

Just come back from 5 days in Europe, done approx. 2000 fairly hard miles, encompassing a few days in Spa-Francochamps, track day on the legendary F1 circuit with my mate Ben (e46 M3), then a day in Germany at the Nurburgring, before some general knocking about sight seeing, and enjoying the unseasonally very hot weather.

Journey down to Spa was uneventful, car was averaging about 39mpg at a steady is 85 - 90 mph cruise. Seats are comfy, the wind deflectors work a treat, you can have the windows all the way down at motorway speeds without ripping your head off in the breeze.

The trackday on the Monday was ace as usual, some serious machinery there, and the weather was awesome, just kept getting hotter and hotter, reached 38c in the afternoon. Tyres were being torn to bits and Ben killed a nearly new set of 18" Michelin Slicks by tea time. I was the official photographer/video man as per normal!!

The air-con on the 206 decided to play French and ran off for the hills on Monday, meaning we fooking cooked like baked potatoes from then on, typical mardy French heap!

Tuesday was even hotter, we saw 41c at lunchtime as we were heading for the Nurburgring for the evening session. 206 was driving well, the flowing roads round there really suiting it and we hit the track at 530pm.

Car was going really well, the suspension mods made such a difference from the last time it was on track, much flatter and predictable and the suppleness over the bumps is amazing.

Did 3 hard laps, passed loads of stuff, got into a groove, lap 4 was almost the downfall, halfway round, got the EML on, a misfire and "anti-pollution" fault on the dash. No overheating or smoke, so must be electrical.

Sure enough the coil pack had failed..... Got back to the car park, whipped it off and let it cool. Once it was cooler it started fine, but 3 miles down the road, as soon as it got warm, it misfired like a b**ch. Bear in mind we were 80 miles away from Spa, we had to think fast. We settled on propping the bonnet open on a box of brake pads, cable tied everything down hard and set off, the extra air over the engine bay almost kept the misfire at bay all the way back :lol

Next morning saw me in the Pug dealership in spa, with the part number off servicebox (that took some explaining in broken French where it had come from) to order the coilpack.

Fitted Wednesday afternoon and its a ripper again!!! Had two of the younger mechanics looking at it in the car park, the service guy said they had never seen an RC 180 before. LOL!!!

So, back home now, got some new wheels coming next week, so i'll update with pics of those on the car in due course, and im uploading some Spa pics now.:thumbsup

Downsizing FTW!!!!

The 206 180 come with some delightful 7"x17" five spoke alloys from the factory, which to some look ok, but the general opinion is that they ride and handle better on smaller wheels, in fact they even look better, I feel the car as standard looks "overwheeled" for a small motor.

Hence looking at 16"s for the car. Normal GTi 206 16" nimrods would have been the obvious choice but for future brake upgrades, the Nimrods don't allow for much room for big 4 pot conversions.

So, I spoke to Team Dynamics about some pro race 1.2's, as they are only up the road from me in West Bromwich, they don't do the correct ET28 offset for mine so id have to go for ET25 as a compromise. They were also quite expensive, even for a trade purchase.

Step in Compomotive again. I've known the owner of Compomotive for a number of years, and had approx. 6 sets of wheels, so when I rang regarding some more VLM's (like I had on the Astor 6), he said machine a set to suit.

Proper ET28 offset, correct centre bore - so no daft plastic spigot rings like the TD's and he confirmed they have never supplied a UK customer with this set up. Few gone abroad, but none in the uk, so unique to say the least!!

Collected them last week, had a set of Hankook V12 EVO's in 205/45/16 as they get great reviews from the Megane RS boys, and were much better affordability for me compared to PS3's.

Fitted up today by my local tyre man, who knows im a fussy f**ker and takes great care with the awkward raised spokes.

 


 


 


There are plans afoot for an AP Racing 315mm 4 pot kit for the front to fill the wheels up before we go hunting for more power....:thumbsup

Black masking update time!

Same process as a 306 P3 headlamp, warm and separate, paint insides, whack back together and Bobs your Auntys Gimp in the cellar.

 


 


 


Got a few more jobs to do, Fix the a/c as its gone awol, change the rattling droplink, then use it some more. Might get some smoked side repeaters for the wings to replace the white ones, and that's about it.

Looks a nice 180 youve got there lofty, iv always liked the blue!! How are you finding the hankook v12's??? That janspeed exhaust by the way is sat just right! Lovely job.

Cheers, the V12's are really good, quiet, yet grippy and the ride's lovely. Be interesting to see how they stack up with lots more miles on them
