hi guys,
I have a completely dry dipstick but i have engine oil and no warning lights? engine was only refilled around a month ago, I do have quite a large oil leak out the crank seal though...
engine runs and sounds fine? Is something just blocked?

The Dipstick just drops to the sump so if its dry your leak has caused the oil to go below the dipstick which can cause problems. Top it up and fix the issue that's causing it to leak.
This really is basic knowledge of owning a Car.

How do you know you have oil still in the engine?

well i put quite alot in last night. also my garage has checked it to see if it has oil and they said its at the right amount. still dry as a bone i'm well aware how a dipstick works thanks:)

How can the garage tell if the engine has enough oil if the dipstick is dry?

Check you have the right dipstick for your car incase someone has swapped it for a shorter one.

why not just get the leak sorted, fill the oil to the correct level and thats it. as said above the leak has caused the oil level to go below the dip stick.

Or that the dipstick hasn't bent or snapped

Reading the part where you say the garage checked the level and was ok.
when you check the level is it on level ground, and not on an incline.

Combining all above.
1) Do not drive the car until this is fixed or you are certain that the oil is at the right level - low oil level is very quickly terminal for your engine and the cost of an engine with fitting will probably be more than your car is worth.
2) Make sure you check the oil level with the car on level ground.
3) Make sure it is the right dipstick for your car though it is very rare to have someone swap a dipstick.
4) Once you have done all above check the oil level every 50 - 100 miles until the leak is fixed.

So as your aware of how a dipstick works, how did you manage to put the 'right amount' in, & how did the garage confirm it??

Have you seen any oil on the dip stick ever at all?if so how much and when in the life of the problem/cars ownership?
