my 206 is leaking braking fluid from what looks like the rear drum does anybody know why this could be happening the drum does look a bit perished

Probably the wheel cylinder seals. Only way to find out is to take the drum off. From what I remember a new cylinder is less than £20 from ECP. You'll also need new brake shoes, and might as well get the fitting kit and auto adjusters as they will more than likely be caked in brake fluid and friction material dust.

Be aware that there are several different rear drum brake system arrangements. Well according to the Haynes manual there are.
If you are going to do this yourself then you will also need new staked nuts that hold the drums on and the torque on these is 148ft.lbs and that is more than a lot of 1/2 inch torque wrenches go up to. The nut size is 32mm.
The spring arrangement and automatic adjuster mechanism is a bit complex and fiddly so take photographs of both sides so that you know how it all goes back.
If you are a DIYer then buy the Haynes manual; they are not perfect but good for jobs like these.

If yours is ABS then I think you will need Peugeot Planet to bleed the brake system. Though not all (maybe none) of the drum brake models have ABS - can anyone confirm?

well mine is 2006,i got drums brake,and i got ABS,so yes some model don't have discs in the back,but got ABS system,maybe older models won't,but newer models do.

My daughters 1.4 8V "W" plate 2000 is none ABS. I wonder what year they changed? Where is MrBSI - bet he knows.
NOTE: my daughters car is now ex. Sold to first viewer after advertising on Thames Valley Trader.

For drum ABS the ring/teeth are on the inside of the drum on the bearing housing and the sensor comes through the back plate IIRC.
Mines a 2003 1.4 with drums but has no ABS. My dads 2006 1.4 with drums and ABS.
