I have a rattle at low revs sounds like a tinny exhaust or heat shield thin metal on metal sound. It does not do it when you rev the engine or at idle. Only when accelerating. Also does not do it when cruising. The sound is louder when the engine is cold. But is still there faintly when hot. The noise stops as the revs rise.

I have been through the forum and checked the following on the car.

Spare wheel and cage - all tight no rattle

Full length of the exhaust, joints, hangers, brackets etc - all tight

Heat shields. I have two that I can see one over the mani and one over the petrol tank. Both tight no issues there.

So I am now pretty stumped. I am assuming (although with my limited knowledge) it could be the cat internals or would the mani be dual skinned and rattling on itself?

Car is a 2005 1.4 16v exhaust is a custom cat back welded at the cat.

Any ideas? Thanks

Tailgate catch. The plastic wears. Easy fix is some insulation tap wrapped around the latch post.

Is the wheel brace clipped into the clips inside the rear cross member?

Yep checked both of those they are fine. It's deffinately engine / exhsust related. I am wondering if it is the manifold inner pipes.

sounds very much like my gti. the manifold would especially rattle louder when its cold. I initially thought it was one of my alternator belt rollers squeaking away lol. turned out it was a mix of both as one of my rollers was on its way out.

very common problem with the gti apparently, though I never heard of it being an issue with other 206 versions though. could look into that as a possibility.

Yea I will check although it is a knocking rattle metal on metal not a squeak. If you took several empty cans and tied them together and shook them. That is what it sounds like
