Have you checked any of the following?

Temp issues - Thermostat?

Air leak on intake?

Misfire issues - Plugs Coil pack injector issues?

Timing issue - Is the belt due a change, has it been changed and done wrong?

Lambda sensor?

Map Sensor dirty or faulty?

any oil leaks?

Leaking exhaust?

Blocked Cat?

As you can see loads of issues could contribute to poor MPG. diagnosing it over the internet is not easy. If you are unsure take it to a garage. Get the codes read and the car checked for anything obvious??

thats alot of things to check i did not realize all of them would affect the mpg i have had it serviced a month ago had the throttle body cleaned was filthy by the way thermostat seems normal

Yes, same as that, really heavy on petrol (1.1) my daughter has a 5 month old child and a 7 year old daughter so you can imagine the sort of speed/acceleration she does so not a heavy footed speed freak, surely there must ba a singular reason for all this petrol usage, considering she was told before buying how frugal they were on fuel,

Any idea's, Tony.

PS car is running spot on (£50 in 8 days doing the school run and shopping etc) sorry I don't have figures to go on but obviously this is very excessive.

In the list from Tolkienfan he forgot:-

General engine condition? A compression test might be worthwhile
Possibly binding (sticking) brake?
Defective ECU / temp sensor? On these cars the temp sensor to ECU is a seperate sensor to the one that feeds the temp gauge so although the gauge may read correctly the ECU may think the car is cold and over fuel it - quite a few threads on that.
Leaking injector?
Blocked air intake?

Was the car using lots of fuel before the service - is it something the garage have done?

Is the car misfiring?

So many things are a possibility, if you are not mechanically minded a long list won't help you but excess fuel can be caused by many things so the only thing you will get is a long list; sorry!

And please do not disrespect MrBSI. He doesn't suffer fools and like a joke, often at others expense, but he is one of the most knowledgeable on this forum.
