Just the Key then the whole unit pulls out.

The barrel itself is the same on all models, the silver trim is removable once the unit is removed and you can change it for a colour coded one with a simple twist.
The actual part that turns becomes dry and begins to stick. When you get it off, put some grease on it and also on the filler neck where it makes contact with the cap. It's worth doing before winter anyway to stop it freezing up which is another common problem people have with them. Best thing to use for lubricating the barrel itself is a silicon spray. Standard WD40 is no good as the grit and dirt stick to the oil that's left and can cause wear on the key and barrel.

hi guys thanks for all your help with this problem, i seem to have sorted it, i managed to get the alu cover off which exposed the end of the barrel, so i put the key in and out of desperation got a pair of mole grips on the barrel and gave it a twist. the whole barrel spun and came out leaving the cap in place then managed to wiggle the cap out. Once id got it all out i put it all back together and found a small plastic lug on a spring that engages when its locked. this is the part that was stopping it from working.
thanks again for everyones help, now thats done i can go for a drive in my new car
