I had to decat our recently as the cat core collapsed and blocked the exhaust ... being overtaken by artics on the motorway was not fun ...

Haha, have you noticed any difference with yours? I think the bottom end lag isn't as noticable now, Can't wait to get it mapped up think it'll make it a different car to drive.

I had my 1.4hdi 307 remapped, no engine mods were done.
Although it was just an OBD remap, the improvement was amazing.
I've done just shy of 6k miles since the map, and it's still going perfect.

no smoke or anything? have you noticed any fuel gains? it's the bottom end lag before the turbo spools up that i want to lose. Have you noticed any improvement there?
sounds a worth while investment then

Love the de-vinyling of the door pillars. Ive brought my 1.4 hdi 2 days ago, and have been looking at your thread. Whats the benefits of decatting? would i need to mod anything else after decatting? I was thinking of a remap too

Fuel consumption seems to be about the same, but I only really do town driving.
As for lag, it's a massive improvement, I used to sheet my pants pulling out in first, buy its a lot better now.
I can even overtake with confidence.

The door vinyls were a piece of p s to do..
Just peeled off if you take your time, do it slowly and make sure you follow it round the lip as well, quick coat of bug and tar remover after to get rid of the sticky feel, a wax and your done. took about 15 mins and that was taking time.
the decat has made improvement especially bottom end turbo lag, however i think a full stainless and remap are required to really appreciate the results, which is next on my list after the timing belt and clutch.
I'm really happy with my 1.4, I know everybody says get a 2 ltr for speed, but I pay peanuts on insurance, tax is only £30 and it still has enough poke to see these pesky chavs in 1.2's off.

No, people have said that lights can appear on your dashboard. But I haven't experienced this and would recommend it to anyone.
I think remapping a diesel just goes without saying, although make sure you have a good clutch installed, a recent stock one if not an uprated one. I'm going to stick a valeo in mine because I do so much town driving I don't want a heavy sports clutch.

I love my 1.4 HDI too have just done 240 miles around town and still sitting 1-2mm above halfway tank! Ill be up and down the motorway for the next two days so will report back on what I get.
I think ill change my clutch and timing belt before I consider a remap. Any videos or pictures of your decat? I am interested but the benefits have to outweigh the costs. Did you do the decat yourself?

The fuel consumption is amazing! I can easy get 275 miles to £30 diesel @137.9p

I think I took some pictures but no video I'm afraid, yeah did it myself, and i'd day I have very little diy experience, I just did it step by step.
1. Remove heat shield
2. unbolt from manifold
3. unbolt from centre section.
4. used hammer and a old screwdriver to smash internals out. (making sure its all out of the corners.
5. bolt all back up, i put a little exhaust paste round seals aswell from extra security.
It cost me nothing, unless you count the exhaust paste, which i used from a previous exhaust job.

At the moment de-cat on a diesel won't cause mot problem but in the future it might. I think the diesel cat is also to catch soot particles so it might be a bit smokey at times.
I've not had any warning lights since I removed mine, but I will probably get a replacement at some stage before the MOT next Feb ... or I'll take it in a month early and if it fails the smoke-test, replace it then. Performance seems to be about the same with a working cat and without one ...

If anything I think the smoke is better, with the cat on it seemed to build up then dump it all out when i floored it leaving the car behind in a cloud of smoke. but now when i floor it, it seems to throw out barely no smoke.

How about this EGR valve? have you guys removed this? I saw a how to somehwere here. Was wondering would it be beneficial to a 1.4 hdi?

I've heard it can play havoc with the engine management system, so I'm leaving that well alone
On a plus note just did a 400 mile round trip and averaged 84 mpg!!!
