Hi,
I'm in the market to buy the stuff I need to read the ecu. I have an old 2000 reg 206 and want the stuff you all use (pp2000/lexia3)
There are many on eBay, but which one should I choose? Are they all the same?
Help please!

Most of the ones around the £50 upwards mark are clones. Some people have had issues with this and the BSI screwing up.
I think the genuine ones are around £3000
They all do the same, just you can't perform BSI updates with a clone as it needs to be connected to Peugeot servers.
If you just want it for code reading and to activate functions in the BSI/pair new keys the clone is fine.

I got the software via peugeotforums and the cables off aliexpress .. I just didn't go near the CDs that came with the a cables and don't let it update via internet or it gets screwed.

This might sound daft, but can the PP2000 be used to read codes on other cars, Like Honda or something?
I only mean get the codes not activate features like you can if it was plugged into a Peugeot/Citroen.

Thank you.
Would a generic OBD II scanner read the codes from a Peugeot?
Just on the train back to uni, always been curious about this, so thank you for answering

Yes I only want it to fault find, erase fault codes and see the live data for things in real time.

I use an Elm327 lead with Palmer Performance Engineering software. Reads/erases fault codes and live data from all EOBD compliant vehicles and even some that aren't. It records the live data so you can view it back at a later time.

Unlikely. OBD-II is the US standard ... so unless that Peugeot was destined for the US market it is unlikely to read properly. You might get something back but it's also likely to incorrect.
PP2000 or a Peugeot specific reader like the VS863 from Sealey.
Later multiplex cars could use the standard EOBD code readers.

A cheap £20 hand held works fine on my 2001 (pre plex) and 06 multiplex.
Reads everything. Tells you fault on screen. Clears faults.

As OBD-II became mandatory in the USA in 1996, many manufacturers began building all their models with the port rather than creating 2 separate electrical systems.
Some code readers will work, others won't. It all depends on if the lead you are using is VPW, PWM and ISO compatible.
I've had the ELM connected to a '99 diesel, which only became OBD-II (EOBD) compliant in 2004 in Europe.
For a tenner, it would be worth the punt. Even if it doesn't work, it's a handy tool to have in your toolbox in the future as your next car will most likely be later than a 2001 model.
For cars without the OBD port, there is a way of getting the codes using a test lamp
